"Our Story"

We are born with the idea of generating new income for our family, but we ask ourselves the question What can we do? and How to do it?
...From here comes the idea and initiative to create a store, which will generate income for the family, like solving some of the needs that persist in the family and some of them are:
  • The need to buy medicine for Nathaly Oliva who suffers from a disease that according to the doctors is incurable (Linear Scleroderma), the treatments cost too much and the income in the family is not great to attend to this restlessness.
  •  Also the family is very big and for the moment 2 of the members are in the university and although it seems that nothing happens, they generate more and more expenses of which not all are solved.
  • We also do this to make known the handicrafts(Artesaniasof our place of origin that is La Palma, Chalatenango, which in one way or another were included into our city by the recognized Fernando Llort.
La Palma is a municipality of El Salvador belonging to the department of Chalatenango. It has a historical importance since it played a fundamental role in the negotiations between the guerilla and the Government during the civil war; is also the largest handicraft(Artesanía) center in the country, sustaining the economy of the municipality almost totally in this area.
It is part of the mountainous zone of the country, reason why it hosts diverse tourist centers that contribute to its economy.

The History arose in the time of the colony; its name comes from having been founded in a place formerly called La Palmita, a hamlet located near the Nunuapa River. After a flood of that river in 1882, its settlers moved to the present place and founded the Villa of La Palma. In 1959 by Legislative Decree, it reached the title of city of the same name, adjudicating the administration of the cantons Los Horcones, Los Planes, Las Granadillas, El Gramal, San José Sacaré, El Túnel, El Aguacatal, and San Josecalera.

It acquired great importance in the History of El Salvador since it played a leading role in the solution of the civil war. From 1980, the municipality was platform of the ideological work of the guerilla and later, it served as scene of fights between the insurgents and the army. On October 15, 1984, President José Napoleón Duarte and the leaders of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) had the first meeting, initiating the dialogues that would culminate with the Chapultepec Peace Accords.
Geography: its approximate extension is of 131.89 km ². Its jurisdictional limits are: to the north with San Ignacio, to the south with Agua Caliente, to the east with the Republic of Honduras and the municipalities of San Fernando, San Francisco Morazán and La Reina, and to the west with Metapan and Citalá, being limited by the Lempa river. It has part of the mountainous zone of El Salvador, enjoying a cold climate. Administratively, the municipality is divided into 8 cantons and 87 farmhouses in the rural area and 6 neighborhoods in the urban area.

The economy of La Palma is mainly based on handicrafts(Artesanias); 70% of the population lives on handicrafts(Artesanias) and tourism, and the other 30% on agriculture, growing vegetables, corn, beans and coffee.

In the 1970s, Fernando Llort settled in the municipality, developing an artisan industry that is the main generator of local employment. The palmeño style is characterized mainly by using as a raw material the seed of copinol, decorated with bright paint and abstract drawings, with motives of daily life. In addition, some artisans have varied the technique and included other crafts(Artesanias).

There are about 100 handicreafts(Artesanias) workshops in the locality, half of which are mainly dedicated to export. The growth of Artesanias exports in the municipality does not correspond to the national trend, being well above the rest of the country.
